A widespread and long cultivated fruit from Eurasia, this shrub produces bright orange berries that are rich in vitamins and oils. Sea berry is used in juice, beer, wine, vinegars, sauces, and jam.

The scientific name of seaberry, Hippophae, means “shiny horse” and is taken from how ancient cultures noticed the increased health, vigor, and coat quality of their horses when set out to a pasture with thickets of seaberry.
